GC Rieber VivoMega, a supplier of sustainable fish and vegan omega-3 concentrates, will mark its 60th anniversary in business at SupplySide Global.

The company was originally founded in Kristiansund in 1965 as Alnes Marine Oils, focused on producing and trading marine fish oils. GC Rieber later became the majority stakeholder in the company, which now operates as GC Rieber VivoMega. Over the years, the Kristiansund facility in Norway has honed its specialization in high-quality omega-3 production.

In 2010, GC Rieber completed the construction of a high-concentration production facility, branding its products as VivoMega and concentrating solely on the production of high- and ultra-grade omega-3 concentrates.

By 2020, GC Rieber VivoMega had expanded its infrastructure with the construction of 38,000 metric ton tank park, enabling a steadier output to meet rising demand.

In 2023, the company launched its first vegan offerings, non-GMO EPA and DHA algae oils, to satisfy growing demand for alternatives.

In 2024, the company completed its sixth facility expansion, which includes an electric steam boiler that enables its three facilities to operate on 100% renewable energy. The expansion also included heating capabilities to maintain oil quality and ease extraction in winter. The company also began integrating more nitrogen to improve sensory profiles and incorporated a no-code AI platform, enabling real-time predictions for operational efficiency, quality, and sustainability. The $75 million expansion significantly increased the output of high-end triglyceride forms of omega-3s while conserving resources and offering customization.

“Over our long history, we have continually evolved to meet the growing demands of the global omega-3 market. We have achieved this by adhering to our three core values: creativity, diligence, and responsibility,” said Snorre Glærum Strand, CEO at GC Rieber VivoMega. “Our mission has always been to improve human health through sustainable and innovative omega-3 solutions. We are incredibly proud of this milestone and deeply thankful to our team, customers, and partners.”

Today, GC Rieber VivoMega offers a range of EPA and DHA ratios in both ethyl ester and natural triglyceride forms, with total omega-3 content ranging from 70-90%. Its oils consistently exceed quality standards such as IFOS certification and the monograph by the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED).
